Two Infants Die as Gaza Faces Deadly Winter Amid Humanitarian Collapse

Gaza Herald – Two-month-old Muhammad Wissam Abu Harbid died Saturday in Gaza City from extreme cold, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip. His death came amid severe shortages of shelter, aid, and essential services caused by ongoing restrictions and destruction.

Earlier the same day, a seven-day-old Palestinian newborn also succumbed to freezing temperatures while living in fragile displacement tents, lacking even minimal protection from the harsh winter conditions.

The fatalities occurred despite the ceasefire that went into effect on October 10, 2025. Israeli authorities failed to meet obligations to allow adequate humanitarian aid, shelter materials, and reconstruction supplies into Gaza, leaving vulnerable populations exposed.

The ongoing winter compounded the crisis, damaging tents, flooding camps, and putting children, the elderly, and displaced families at extreme risk, especially in areas where homes were destroyed during two years of Israeli bombardment.

Since the genocide began on October 7, 2023, Israeli strikes have killed over 71,000 Palestinians and injured more than 171,000, while 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure was destroyed, deepening the region’s catastrophic humanitarian emergency.
