Gaza Herald_The Ministry of Health in Gaza has warned that the shortage of laboratory consumables has reached catastrophic levels, severely undermining the ability of hospitals to provide medical care to patients.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ministry said that 75 percent of chemical testing supplies are no longer available, while 90 percent of materials used for diagnostic testing and blood transfusions have been completely depleted.
The ministry reported that essential laboratory tests have already stopped, including examinations required for endocrine patients, cancer patients, kidney transplant recipients, electrolyte balance testing, and complete blood count (CBC) tests.
It also noted that 72 percent of bacterial culture testing materials are unavailable, further limiting doctors’ ability to diagnose infections and prescribe appropriate treatment.
According to the statement, no laboratory or blood bank supplies have been allowed into Gaza for months, causing the crisis to worsen to a point that may prevent accurate diagnosis and delay or halt surgical procedures.
The Ministry of Health called on relevant authorities and international actors to urgently intervene and replenish laboratory and blood bank supplies before the health system faces total collapse.
