Medical Groups Warn Israeli Blockade Fuels Epidemic Surge in Gaza

Gaza Herald – Humanitarian organizations reported a sharp rise in infectious diseases among displaced Palestinians in Gaza, warning that winter conditions and Israeli restrictions on medical supplies worsened the crisis.

Doctors Without Borders recorded high rates of respiratory infections, predicting cases would rise through the winter months. Meanwhile, the Gaza Medical Relief Society said hepatitis infections had reached 70,000 cases, with cholera and polio spreading rapidly.

Medical officials noted that shortages of basic medicines and equipment prevented effective epidemic control. Over 1,000 patients reportedly died while awaiting medical evacuation since mid-2024, highlighting the deadly consequences of restricted access.

Health agencies urged Israeli authorities to allow immediate and large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid, stressing that without urgent intervention, the ongoing blockade would continue to amplify disease and suffering among Gaza’s most vulnerable.
