Gaza Herald – Israel’s far-right government will bring a bill to impose the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners before the Knesset next Monday, according to Channel 14. The proposal, spearheaded by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and backed by extremist coalition partners, aims to legalize the execution of Palestinians accused of attacks against Israelis.
The move comes as Israel faces mounting accusations of genocide in Gaza, where more than 239,000 Palestinians have been killed or wounded since October 2023. Human rights groups condemned the bill as a flagrant violation of international law, warning it would institutionalize state murder and deepen Israel’s apartheid policies against Palestinians already enduring mass killings, starvation, and imprisonment.
According to prisoner advocacy organizations, Israel currently holds over 9,000 Palestinians, including women, children, and thousands of administrative detainees held without charge. Reports have documented torture, starvation, and the deaths of several detainees in custody since the beginning of the Gaza genocide.
