Gaza Herald _ After months of relentless bombardment and destruction, Gaza now faces a new and equally devastating threat ,a shortage of clean water that is pushing the enclave to the brink of an even worse humanitarian catastrophe. With much of the infrastructure destroyed, residents are left struggling for life’s most basic necessity
The Gaza Water Authority has warned that the ongoing shortage of clean water could trigger an even greater humanitarian catastrophe if urgent action is not taken.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the authority said its limited crews are distributing what little water remains through tanker trucks as part of an emergency plan to cover the most basic needs of Gaza’s residents.
Despite facing a lack of essential equipment and massive destruction across the Strip, workers continue their efforts in cooperation with international partners to restore water access.
The authority emphasized that the top priority right now is to secure safe and usable water for the population, describing the situation as “critical and unsustainable.”
Officials called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to urgently support the rehabilitation of damaged water networks, especially in Khan Younis and northern Gaza, where entire neighborhoods remain without running water.
If the shortage continues, the consequences could be catastrophic. Thousands of families already rely on contaminated water sources, heightening the risk of disease outbreaks. Without rapid international assistance and the entry of vital repair equipment, Gaza’s already dire humanitarian situation could deteriorate even further , turning a water crisis into a full-blown public health disaster.
