Israeli-backed “militia project” collapses in Gaza, Tel Aviv faces the fallout of its failed proxy experiment

Gaza Herald – Israel’s attempt to build armed proxy groups inside Gaza has completely collapsed, according to Israel’s Channel 12, which admitted that Tel Aviv is now facing the “full consequences” of its failed “gang project.” The report comes as Hamas launches a sweeping security campaign to dismantle armed cells and militias that Israel helped create and fund during its genocidal war on Gaza.

Channel 12 said Hamas security forces, including the elite Al-Sahm (Arrow) Unit and Rad‘ (Deterrence) Force, are conducting coordinated operations across Gaza to eliminate armed groups that tried to seize local control after Israel’s withdrawal. The campaign has focused on areas such as Rafah, where the so-called Abu Shabab gang once represented Israel’s “tribal governance” experiment, a project that has now turned into a central target after evidence of direct collaboration with Israeli forces.

In Gaza City, members of the Dughmosh family were executed by Hamas’s security units after being accused of cooperation with Israel, while others were detained following heavy clashes in Al-Sabra neighborhood. Fighting also erupted in Shejaiya between Hamas fighters and an armed cell operating in the east of the city. In northern Gaza, several gunmen were killed, and others surrendered to Hamas, while in Khan Younis, Al-Mujaida family publicly handed over its weapons to avoid confrontation.

Channel 12 acknowledged that Israel’s “short-sighted gamble” to establish armed factions as a “civilian alternative” to Hamas governance has backfired spectacularly, leaving chaos and bloodshed in its wake. The militias once supported by Israel are now being eradicated by the very forces they were meant to counter, a development that exposes the total failure of Israel’s occupation strategy and raises a new dilemma: will Tel Aviv intervene again, risking a renewed collapse of the ceasefire, or watch as Hamas regains full control over Gaza?
