Dozens of Gaza’s Health Workers Freed from Israeli Prisons

Gaza Herald – Dozens of Palestinian healthcare workers have been released from Israeli prisons as part of the ongoing exchange deal, according to Healthcare Workers Watch, which confirmed that at least 55 medical professionals were among those freed, including 24 nurses, seven doctors, and two paramedics.

The organization revealed that 44 of them were abducted directly from hospitals where they were providing lifesaving care during Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

Dr. Muath Alser, cofounder and director of the advocacy group, said that Israel’s systematic kidnapping of healthcare workers constitutes a war crime, adding that the unlawful detention of trained medical professionals has crippled Gaza’s collapsing health sector and deprived countless civilians of treatment.

He urged the international community to pressure Israel to “immediately and unconditionally release all detained healthcare workers, including the bodies of those tortured to killing in detention.”

According to Healthcare Workers Watch, 115 more Palestinian health workers, including surgeons, nurses, and ambulance crews, remain behind bars in Israel, many held without charge or trial.

The group warned that their continued imprisonment reflects a deliberate campaign to dismantle Gaza’s healthcare system, calling it a “clear violation of international humanitarian law and an extension of the ongoing genocide.”
