Gaza Herald – The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor blasted the European Union for its failure to act decisively against Israel, describing EU measures as “symbolic, selective, and ineffective” while Gaza’s humanitarian crisis enters its 23rd month.
According to the Monitor, actions announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, which are including a partial trade suspension, limited sanctions on extremist ministers, and the creation of a donor fund for Gaza reconstruction, are superficial gestures that fail to halt Israel’s ongoing genocide.
The statement emphasized that the EU’s political, economic, and military support for Israel, alongside the complicity of member states, makes it directly responsible for the worsening catastrophe. “Token measures only embolden Israel’s impunity and allow atrocities to escalate,” the report warned.
The Monitor called for urgent, meaningful intervention, concluding: a full suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, a complete halt to military cooperation and arms exports, binding sanctions on Israeli officials and institutions, a ban on settlement products, and support for the International Criminal Court in issuing and enforcing arrest warrants.
“Gaza doesn’t need cosmetic gestures,” the Monitor concluded. “It needs decisive action before more lives are lost and the city is pushed closer to total collapse.”
