Gaza Herald – Since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza ,over 19,400 children have been killed in Gaza, averaging one child every 52 minutes, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Infants under one-year-old account for more than 1,000 of the deaths.
Women and the elderly make up nearly a quarter of the civilian toll, while men constitute almost half. Overall, more than 64,300 Palestinians have been killed, with over 83 percent classified as civilians.
United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) warns that Gaza’s children are facing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. Malnutrition, famine, and displacement have stripped children of basic shelter and care, while relentless bombardments continue to threaten their survival.
“Even so-called safe zones are no longer safe,” said UNICEF communications manager Tess Ingram. “The unthinkable is unfolding in Gaza City. Childhood is under sieg, literally and figuratively. It is a city of fear, flight, and funerals.”
The latest statistics show that 58 percent of Gaza’s population is under emergency levels of starvation, with 32 percent, over 641,000 people, facing the most severe famine. Children under five are the hardest hit, with tens of thousands suffering from extreme deprivation and a growing number of orphans.
“In Gaza, the collapse of essential services is leaving the youngest fighting for survival,” Ingram said. “Without immediate, increased access to food and nutrition treatments, more children will starve. This is a fate that is entirely preventable.”
