Israeli Forces Kill Senior Gaza Doctor, Part of Systematic Targeting of Medical Staff

Gaza Herald – Dr. Fathi Abdul Karim Al-Raqab, a pediatric specialist and head of department at Nasser Medical Complex, was killed in an Israeli strike, joining the growing list of medical professionals killed in the war.

Health officials call this a systematic targeting of doctors and health workers in Gaza. Recent losses include Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, a leading orthopedic surgeon who died after being detained by Israeli forces, and Dr. Marwan Sultan, a hospital director killed when his home was bombed. Each death deprives Gaza’s health system of decades of vital experience.

Israeli forces have also detained numerous medical staff. Notable cases include Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Iyad Al-Rantisi, an oncology specialist, and Dr. Khaled Al-Saqqa, a prominent surgeon, all held during hospital raids. Many are reportedly held without charges, often under harsh conditions, weakening Gaza’s already fragile healthcare network.

Observers warn that the deliberate targeting and detention of doctors is devastating Gaza’s healthcare system and putting the entire population at risk.
