Gaza Herald- A 20-year-old Palestinian woman suffering from severe malnutrition, who was evacuated to Italy for treatment, died less than 48 hours after arriving, the University Hospital of Pisa said.
The Gazan woman, identified as Marah Abu Zuhri, flew to Pisa with her mother on an overnight flight on Wednesday as part of a program set up by the Italian government.
The hospital said she had a “very complex clinical picture” and suffered a severe loss of weight and muscle, while Italian news agencies reported that she was suffering from acute malnutrition.
According to the sources, Marahhe died following a sudden respiratory crisis and cardiac arrest after completing the required tests to begin treatment.
The World Food Program warned last month in a report of widespread malnutrition in Gaza, saying that the “worst-case scenario” of famine is unfolding there.
More than 180 children and adults have been flown to Italy since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza.
The Italian foreign ministry stated that thirty-one patients and their companions arrived in Rome, Milan, and Pisa, all with serious congenital diseases, wounds or amputations.
