Gaza death toll surpasses 57,300 as Israeli strikes continue

GAZA- At least 70 people have been killed and 332 wounded in the past 24 hours in the Gaza Strip, as Israel’s assault on the besieged enclave grinds on.

The total death toll since 7 October has now climbed to 57,338, with 135,957 people wounded, according to official figures.

Rescue efforts remain hampered, with many victims still trapped under rubble or lying in streets unreachable due to ongoing bombardment.

Israel resumed attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 and has since killed 6,780 victims and injured 23,916, shattering a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January.

Scenes of chaos unfold every day as crowds of hungry Palestinians have had to walk miles and contend with confusing sets of rules to access food, now distributed from set points run by the private American initiative the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

More than 600 people have been shot dead by Israeli forces as they have attempted to get aid from GHF distribution points, with witnesses accusing Israeli soldiers of shooting directly at crowds. The Israeli military said it was investigating such incidents.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
