Gaza Herald — Nearly a year after a declared ceasefire, the United Nations has warned that no place or person remains safe in Gaza as persistent Israeli attacks continue to inflict heavy casualties across the besieged enclave.
In a statement released Friday, the UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory confirmed that Israeli strikes killed at least 24 Palestinians, including four children and a woman, between August 28 and September 1. Twenty-one of those victims were killed in direct airstrikes, highlighting the ongoing failure of the ceasefire framework to protect civilian lives.
UN Rejects Israeli Defense for Civilian Harm
The UN Human Rights Office forcefully rejected Israel’s ongoing justifications for the violence, emphasizing that claims of targeting “lawful targets” do not absolve the Israeli military of its obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law. The agency reiterated that Israel remains legally bound to protect civilian life and take all feasible precautions to prevent non-combatant casualties.
The statement further warned that systematic Israeli violations are actively deepening total insecurity across the region.
Among the latest casualties documented by the UN was a September 1 military raid and airstrike campaign in the Al-Katiba area west of Gaza City, which killed a three-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy, a 31-year-old man, and a 49-year-old woman.

The UN’s latest assessment underscores a severe humanitarian collapse compounded by persistent attacks on densely populated areas and displacement sites. Millions of Palestinians remain exposed to critical shelter shortages, a lack of basic medical supplies, and contaminated water infrastructure, while humanitarian relief operations face continuous disruption.
Calling for an immediate halt to the violence and full legal accountability for unlawful killings, the UN Human Rights Office confirmed that for millions living among the ruins, the ceasefire exists in name only, leaving no safe zone anywhere in the Gaza Strip.
