Gaza Herald _Hamas political bureau member and head of the movement’s Arab and Islamic Relations Office, Bassem Naim, said Israel’s latest targeted killings in Gaza amount to a direct warning to the parties overseeing the ceasefire agreement.
Naim said the killing of Gaza City’s police chief was particularly significant, arguing that the attacks reinforce Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stated rejection of the roadmap negotiated between the factions and representatives of the peace framework.
He said Palestinian factions had accepted the roadmap despite what he described as its difficult provisions. Still, he warned that continued Israeli attacks would effectively force Palestinians to submit to what he characterized as Netanyahu’s political and electoral agenda.
Naim’s comments came as renewed Israeli strikes and targeted killings raised fresh concerns over the stability of the ceasefire and the prospects for implementing the next phase of the agreement.
