Reports of Cameras Installed in Lawyer Meeting Rooms at Ofer

Gaza Herald _The Prisoners’ Media Office announced on Saturday a new wave of punitive measures imposed by the Israeli prison administration at Ofer Prison, describing them as part of a systematic escalation that violates international humanitarian and human rights standards.

According to the statement, Palestinian prisoners are now being transferred between prison sections with their hands tightly bound behind their backs and under the supervision of masked guards. The office said these practices are deliberately degrading and reflect an unprecedented tightening of restrictions on prisoners’ movement inside the facility.

The statement also reported the installation of surveillance cameras inside rooms designated for legal meetings with lawyers. In addition, the duration of attorney visits has reportedly been reduced, further limiting prisoners’ ability to communicate with the outside world or report on their conditions inside detention.

The Prisoners’ Media Office warned of a serious deterioration in health conditions inside the prison, pointing to visible signs of severe weight loss and physical weakness among several detainees. It also said that scabies has re-emerged in multiple sections due to medical neglect and a lack of basic hygiene supplies.

The office called on international and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to halt these practices, demand independent monitoring of prisoner conditions, and end what it described as a system of humiliation, surveillance, and intimidation inside Israeli prisons.

These warnings come amid ongoing Palestinian reports of worsening conditions for detainees across Israeli prisons, including increasing administrative restrictions, shortages of medical care and food, and a rising number of detainees, among them thousands held under administrative detention or classified as “unlawful combatants.”
