Jerusalem Committee Condemns Colombia’s Embassy Opening in Occupied Jerusalem

Gaza Herald – The Jerusalem Committee of the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad has issued a strong condemnation regarding the Colombian government’s decision to open its embassy in occupied Jerusalem. In a statement released on Thursday, the committee described this diplomatic move as an unacceptable aggressive step that demonstrates bias toward the Zionist occupation entity.

The organization characterized the action as a direct violation of the fixed rights of the Palestinian people. It demanded that the Colombian government immediately reverse this decision, close the embassy located within the city, and relocate it outside Jerusalem. The committee insisted that Bogota must bear full political and legal responsibility for the consequences of this choice.

According to the statement, the decision contradicts relevant international resolutions governing the status of the city. The committee emphasized that Jerusalem remains a red line, asserting that any attempts to legitimize alleged Israeli sovereignty over the area will continue to be rejected. Such moves will face ongoing resistance, protests, and steadfastness from the Palestinian side.

The body stressed that unilateral decisions cannot grant legitimacy to the occupation nor impose a reality that diminishes Palestinian national rights. It affirmed that the holy city will remain a central issue for the nation, which cannot be bypassed or circumvented by any administrative decrees. The committee noted that achieving lasting peace in the region requires ending the occupation and respecting the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.

This development follows events from Wednesday, when Colombia officially inaugurated its diplomatic mission in the occupied city. With this opening, Colombia became the tenth country to take this step, which violates international laws and resolutions concerning the status of Jerusalem and the rights of its inhabitants.
