Gaza Herald — More than 10,000 Palestinian children in Gaza have suffered leg amputations during three years of Israel’s genocidal campaign, while tens of thousands of other Palestinians face permanent disabilities and limited access to medical treatment, according to a report by the Geneva-based Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor.
Published to mark the third anniversary of the Gaza genocide and the first anniversary of the October 2025 ceasefire, the report documents the devastating human toll of Israeli attacks, mass displacement, restrictions on medical care, and the destruction of essential infrastructure.
Euro-Med Monitor said Israel’s actions have continued to threaten Palestinian lives despite the ceasefire, citing ongoing attacks, restrictions on humanitarian supplies, and the deterioration of Gaza’s healthcare system.
Thousands of Palestinian Children Face Permanent Disabilities
According to Euro-Med Monitor, approximately 13 percent of Gaza’s population of 2.4 million has been killed, injured, detained, or remains missing following Israeli attacks.
The organization said children account for 30 percent of casualties, while women represent 20 percent. It also estimated that civilians constitute 90 percent of those killed.
Figures cited from Gaza’s Ministry of Health put the Palestinian death toll at 74,377, with another 175,398 people injured since October 2023.
Among the injured, more than 40,000 Palestinians are living with permanent disabilities or require long-term rehabilitation, according to the report.
Euro-Med Monitor said approximately 21,000 children have suffered lasting physical impairments, including more than 10,000 who have undergone at least one leg amputation.
The destruction of hospitals and rehabilitation facilities, combined with restrictions on medical supplies, has left many patients without access to follow-up surgery, prosthetic limbs, or physical therapy.
For Palestinian children who have lost limbs, these shortages threaten their recovery and their ability to regain mobility and independence.
Thousands Detained and Subjected to Torture
The report also documents widespread detention and abuse of Palestinians from Gaza.
Euro-Med Monitor said Israeli forces have detained approximately 12,000 Palestinians over the past three years, with at least 2,700 remaining in detention or unaccounted for.
Based on testimonies from 100 Palestinians released from Israeli custody, the organization identified 42 forms of torture and degrading treatment.
Survivors described sexual violence, forced nudity, electric shocks, severe beatings, psychological abuse, and deaths linked to torture.
The organization said the accounts demonstrate extensive abuse within Israeli detention facilities and called for accountability for violations against Palestinian detainees.
Israeli Destruction Devastates Gaza’s Water and Farmland
Beyond the immediate casualties, the report describes extensive damage to Gaza’s water systems, agricultural land, and other infrastructure essential to civilian survival.
Euro-Med Monitor said the destruction of water networks, desalination facilities, and wells has severely reduced Palestinians’ access to clean water.
It reported a 98 percent decline in daily water availability per person compared with prewar levels.
The organization also documented the destruction of approximately three million trees, 85,000 dunams of orchards, and 8,700 agricultural wells.
The loss of farmland and water infrastructure has devastated local food production, leaving Palestinian families increasingly dependent on humanitarian assistance at a time when supplies remain restricted.
Euro-Med Monitor also warned of widespread psychological trauma and food insecurity among Gaza’s population.
Israeli Attacks Continue Despite Ceasefire
The report was released around the first anniversary of the ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025.
According to figures cited from Gaza’s Government Media Office, Israeli forces committed 5,474 ceasefire violations over the following year, including attacks and other actions that the office classified as breaches of the agreement.
The office also recorded the detention of an additional 203 Palestinians during that period.
The report said approximately 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged, while reconstruction and recovery costs are estimated at $71.4 billion.
Euro-Med Monitor called for an end to Israeli restrictions on humanitarian assistance, the entry of medical and reconstruction equipment, and measures to protect Palestinians from further attacks.
For thousands of Palestinian children living with amputations and permanent injuries, the destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system means that surviving Israeli attacks is only the beginning of a prolonged struggle for treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery.
