Gaza Herald – Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani has announced that a municipal initiative designed to stabilize goods prices and mitigate the effects of United States sanctions will be extended across the entire country. The official stated that the program aims to provide economic relief to citizens amid ongoing international pressure.
Zakani wrote on X that despite what he described as an “economic war on Iranians” led by President Trump and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the Tehran Municipality launched the “Zero-Inflation Initiative.” This measure is intended to freeze the prices of essential goods for a period of six months.
Describing the policy as an “economic shield,” Zakani declared that it is set to expand nationwide specifically to counter US pressure. He emphasized that the goal is to protect the population from external financial warfare while maintaining local stability.
On Thursday, the mayor posted another message on X stating: “Our heartfelt belief is that we are in an all-out war and must do everything in our power to reduce the economic pressure on the people.” He reiterated that zero inflation serves as a defensive mechanism against such conflicts.
Zakani added that this approach allows people to have greater peace of mind when meeting their essential needs. The statement underscores the municipality’s role in directly addressing cost-of-living concerns without relying solely on federal interventions.
The announcement comes shortly after the United States launched Operation Economic Outcast in late August. This operation seeks to totally isolate Iran from international trade networks. The move represents a significant escalation in financial restrictions aimed at limiting Tehran’s economic capabilities.
By extending the price-freeze model beyond the capital, authorities hope to demonstrate resilience against these isolation efforts. The initiative focuses on keeping basic commodities affordable for households during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.
Local officials view the nationwide rollout as a strategic response to Washington’s policies. They argue that stabilizing domestic markets is crucial for maintaining social order and public confidence in the face of external threats.
