Gaza Herald – Al-Wafa Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation and Specialized Surgery announced on Monday the temporary suspension of several essential medical services. The hospital administration stated that the halt affects outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, external physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and swallowing services.
The facility warned that an operational and humanitarian crisis has reached a critical level, endangering its ability to continue providing care to patients, wounded individuals, and people with disabilities. It emphasized that the hospital is one of the most important treatment centers in the Gaza Strip.
According to the statement, the institution provides specialized medical and rehabilitation services to thousands of citizens monthly. Many of the patients and visitors rely heavily on the continuity of these specific services for their health and recovery needs.
The administration highlighted a sharp shortage of diesel and fuel required to operate electrical generators and vehicles. Additionally, it cited increasing difficulties in securing oils, tires, spare parts, and maintenance supplies necessary to keep equipment and basic services running.
To preserve remaining resources, the hospital decided to redirect available fuel toward inpatient services and other indispensable medical treatments. This measure was taken in an attempt to maintain core functions while suspending non-essential external operations.
Al-Wafa Hospital issued an urgent appeal to the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and all relevant health and humanitarian institutions. It called for immediate intervention to provide fuel, oils, spare parts, and other urgent operational requirements.
The hospital stressed that without such assistance, it risks further reducing services and losing its capacity to fulfill its medical and humanitarian mission. This situation becomes increasingly dangerous as the demand for rehabilitation and treatment services grows in the Gaza Strip.
Administration officials expressed hope that this call would reach all concerned parties and translate into swift action. They urged stakeholders to ensure the continued operation of this vital health facility to serve patients, the wounded, and persons with disabilities effectively.
