Gaza Herald _The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering a broad package of measures aimed at weakening the International Criminal Court (ICC), disrupting its operations, and preventing it from pursuing legal action against American and Israeli officials, according to US officials.
Reuters reported Monday, citing a US State Department official, that the administration is exploring additional sanctions, visa restrictions, travel bans, and diplomatic efforts to encourage countries to withdraw from the court. The official said the White House views the ICC as a threat to US sovereignty and is evaluating multiple options to counter its activities.
Speaking on the administration’s position, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the ICC of waging what he described as a legal campaign against the United States.
“The International Criminal Court and its allies are waging war on our country—not with bullets or missiles, but through legal texts, treaties, and the power of what they call international law,” Rubio said.
Rubio argued that the court poses a growing threat to the US political and legal system, warning that failing to respond would leave Americans vulnerable to prosecution by what he described as “foreign judges” operating outside the country’s jurisdiction.
He also criticized the ICC’s scrutiny of US military operations and law enforcement activities, claiming such actions represent a dangerous overreach of the court’s authority.
The proposed measures come as the Trump administration intensifies its opposition to ICC investigations involving both American and Israeli officials, with Washington signaling it is prepared to expand political, diplomatic, and economic pressure on the court in an effort to limit its ability to pursue such cases.
