UNICEF condemns killing of Gaza water truck drivers, calls for investigation

Gaza Herald- The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has sounded the alarm following the killing of two contracted workers who were delivering clean water to families in the Gaza Strip.

The incident threatened vital humanitarian operations supplying clean water to hundreds of thousands of people, the agency warned in a statement issued Friday.

UNICEF condemned the killing of two contracted truck drivers delivering clean water to families in the Gaza Strip.

UNICEF said the two men were killed by Israeli fire early Friday at the Mansoura water filling point in northern Gaza, with two others injured, adding that the incident took place during routine water trucking operations without any changes to movement or procedures.

It reported that the Mansoura site is the only operational truck filling point connected to the Mekorot water supply line serving Gaza City, used several times daily by UNICEF and humanitarian partners to maintain essential water deliveries for large parts of the population, including children.

Following the incident, UNICEF noted that its contractors were instructed to suspend all on-site operations until conditions improve and the security situation allows a safe return.

The agency urged Israeli authorities to “immediately investigate the incident and ensure full accountability,” stressing that “humanitarian workers, essential service providers, and civilian infrastructure, including critical water facilities, must never be targeted.”

The statement added that protecting civilians and humanitarian workers delivering life-saving aid is a duty under international humanitarian law.
