Gaza Herald – At least 40 Palestinian journalists are currently held in Israeli prisons, according to the Prisoners’ Media Office, underscoring an ongoing campaign to silence reporting under Israel’s genocidal assault on the Palestinian people.
The statement said two journalists from Gaza, Nidal al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdel Wahid, remain forcibly disappeared, with no information provided about their fate. Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have carried out roughly 220 arrests and detentions of journalists and media workers.
The latest arrest took place early Sunday, when Israeli forces detained journalist Farouk Omar Aliyat, 44, from Deir Abu Daif east of Jenin in the occupied West Bank. Aliyat, a father of three and a former detainee, has been repeatedly targeted, reflecting what rights groups describe as a systematic effort to criminalize journalism and suppress the truth.
