Gaza Herald – Israel announced Saturday its rejection of the US-declared structure of the Gaza Peace Council, saying it was unveiled without coordination and directly contradicts Israeli policy.
A statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar was instructed to raise Israel’s objections with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, signaling an open rift with Washington.
Israeli media described the move as a public confrontation between Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, amid reports that Netanyahu’s office refused to detail its objections despite prior coordination claims.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid accused Netanyahu of a “grave political failure,” warning that Israel’s actions were paving the way for expanded Turkish and Qatari influence in Gaza after years of war.
The rejection followed the White House’s announcement of the Peace Council and its Gaza executive body, chaired by Trump and including senior US, regional, and international figures tasked with post-war governance and reconstruction.
