Gaza Herald – The United States announced the formation of a Gaza Peace Council early Saturday, appointing Bulgarian diplomat Nikolay Mladenov as High Representative for Gaza, two days after the launch of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
The White House said Mladenov, a former UN Middle East peace envoy, will oversee coordination with the newly launched Palestinian National Committee for Gaza’s administration, as Washington moves to shape the post-genocide governance framework in the enclave.
The council includes senior U.S. and international figures, among them Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Jared Kushner. Advisors Ariyeh Lightstone and Josh Greenbaum were also named, alongside the creation of a Gaza Executive Council.
Washington additionally appointed General Jasper Jeffers to lead an international stabilization force, while announcing a broader executive body tasked with governance, service delivery, and reconstruction planning in Gaza.
According to the U.S. plan, first revealed late last year, President Donald Trump will chair the Peace Council. Palestinian officials confirmed that the national committee has begun work from Cairo, preparing to enter Gaza to launch an urgent relief and early recovery phase following delays caused by Israel.
