Hollywood Figures Urge Europe to Act to Protect Gaza’s Civilians

Gaza Herald_ A group of prominent Hollywood actors and cultural figures has addressed a letter to European leaders, urging immediate action to protect Gaza’s population and halt what they describe as the systematic destruction of the Strip’s healthcare system. The signatories accuse Israel of pursuing policies that have deliberately dismantled medical services in Gaza as part of a wider pattern of collective punishment and genocide.

Among those who signed the letter are well-known figures such as Mark Ruffalo, Rosie O’Donnell, and Cynthia Nixon, alongside activists and public personalities from across the cultural sphere. They argue that Gaza’s health sector has been targeted for decades through repeated military attacks and an ongoing blockade that has crippled its ability to function.

Accusations of Systematic Healthcare Destruction

The letter states that the Israeli government has, for more than twenty years, steadily undermined Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. According to the signatories, repeated strikes on hospitals and medical facilities, coupled with severe restrictions on the entry of supplies and equipment, have pushed the health system to the brink of total collapse.

It adds that Israel has imposed living conditions intended to erode Palestinian life in Gaza, while simultaneously blocking the aid required to keep civilians alive. These policies, the letter argues, amount to the deliberate destruction of the foundations needed for survival, particularly for the sick, wounded, and chronically ill.

Calls for Unrestricted Humanitarian Access

The signatories demand the immediate and unconditional entry of humanitarian assistance into Gaza. This includes allowing medical teams, emergency responders, and aid organizations to operate freely and without political or security restrictions. The letter stresses that denying access to care and relief deepens civilian suffering and violates international humanitarian law.

Notably, the letter is also signed by the mother of Palestinian child Hind Rajab, whose killing by Israeli army fire has become a symbol of the war’s toll on civilians and children. Her inclusion underscores the human cost behind the political appeals made in the message.

International Support and Political Pressure

In addition to celebrities, the letter has been endorsed by several human rights organizations, including the Israeli groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights–Israel. The document is scheduled to be delivered to political leaders in the United Kingdom and the European Union during parliamentary meetings taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday, to translate public pressure into concrete political action.

Crackdown on Humanitarian Organizations

The appeal comes amid escalating restrictions on humanitarian work in the occupied Palestinian territories. Since early January, Israeli authorities have banned the operations of 37 international humanitarian organizations in Gaza and the West Bank, cutting off essential services for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.

Israeli officials have demanded that these organizations submit lists of their Palestinian staff for security vetting, a condition many groups have rejected out of fear that it would expose their employees to arrest, harassment, or worse. Among the organizations affected are major humanitarian actors such as Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), the Norwegian Refugee Council, CARE, World Vision, and Oxfam.

The letter concludes by urging European leaders to move beyond statements of concern and take decisive action to protect Gaza’s civilians, ensure access to medical care, and end policies that continue to endanger millions of lives.
