Gaza Herald – Gaza’s medical laboratories reached a critical breaking point as shortages of essential testing materials and lab consumables crippled diagnostic services, health officials reported. Shelves in hospitals, primary care centers, and ministry storage were nearly empty, leaving staff unable to conduct vital tests.
Medical authorities confirmed that up to 74% of laboratory stocks were depleted, with several items completely out of supply. Critical tests for kidney transplants, cancer monitoring, blood analysis, and pre-surgical screenings were unavailable, halting routine diagnostics and endangering patient care.
Equipment failures compounded the crisis. About 62% of laboratory devices were out of service, either destroyed during the two-year conflict or in need of unavailable spare parts. The remaining machines suffered from wear and tear, requiring constant maintenance, further threatening lab operations.
The lack of lab supplies also disrupted public health monitoring, including epidemiological screenings, newborn testing, and water, food, and drug safety assessments. Health authorities warned that delays in testing jeopardized accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, putting patients’ lives at direct risk.
Officials urged international organizations and humanitarian actors to deliver lab materials, consumables, and functional equipment immediately. Without swift intervention, Gaza’s healthcare system faced a full collapse of diagnostic and life-saving services amid the ongoing humanitarian disaster following Israel’s two-year genocidal war.
