Gaza Herald – Gaza’s Civil Defense suspended the removal of hazards from damaged buildings on Monday due to severe fuel shortages and a lack of operational equipment. The suspension left hundreds of structures in critical condition, threatening the safety of residents and displaced families.
Since the ceasefire began in October, teams have cleared debris and unstable structures from over 3,400 buildings. However, more than 1,500 emergency calls remained unresolved as limited resources prevented a response.
Officials reported that most fuel supplies had run out and key rescue machinery was inoperable. Available equipment had only covered roughly 30% of total calls, leaving thousands of people exposed to imminent danger in their homes and nearby shelters.
The pause in operations heightened risks for civilians living in unstable buildings and informal settlements. Emergency teams could not reach hazardous sites, compounding the humanitarian crisis and leaving lives at stake.
Humanitarian groups warned that without urgent deliveries of fuel and equipment, rescue and recovery efforts would continue to falter. The blockade and restricted access to essential supplies intensified the crisis, undermining the ability to safeguard Gaza’s most vulnerable.
