Gaza Herald_ The suspension and withdrawal of humanitarian organizations from Gaza will further cut Palestinians off from the outside world. The impact goes far beyond the aid these groups deliver. Their presence also ensures visibility, documentation, and a measure of accountability.
For the past two years, these organizations have played a crucial role in recording the genocidal violence unfolding in Gaza and keeping the Strip connected to the global community. Forcing them to halt operations or leave altogether intensifies Gaza’s isolation and makes Palestinian suffering easier to ignore.
This outcome aligns with the Israeli military’s objectives. Israeli officials have repeatedly voiced frustration with the United Nations, accusing it of obstructing military operations on the ground.
This is not a new development. Over the past two years, Israel has systematically targeted UNRWA’s relief work, launching campaigns to discredit the agency, its programs, and its staff. As a result, UNRWA’s ability to operate has been severely restricted.
At the same time, the Israeli military’s designation of more than 55 percent of Gaza as restricted military zones has made it nearly impossible for aid organizations to safely deliver assistance, further worsening the humanitarian crisis.
