UNRWA Warns Gaza Elderly and Disabled Face Life-Threatening Risks

Gaza Herald – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reported that older adults and people with disabilities in Gaza were exposed to severe dangers due to forced displacement and the collapse of the healthcare system. Chronic shortages of essential supplies, including adult diapers, undermined hygiene and human dignity, while persistent gaps in medications for chronic illnesses contributed to preventable deaths.

Aid officials said these vulnerable groups struggled amid ongoing humanitarian restrictions, with insufficient access to shelters, medical care, and daily necessities exacerbating their risk of illness and mortality. The lack of basic support forced families to improvise care under dangerous conditions.

Humanitarian sources noted that the crisis is part of a broader pattern in Gaza, where ongoing genocide, repeated displacement, and systemic shortages have left the elderly and disabled disproportionately affected. UNRWA and partner agencies stressed that urgent intervention and unrestricted delivery of aid were critical to preventing further deaths.
