Gaza Herald – Gaza’s Civil Defense said it is preparing to face a new winter storm expected to hit the Strip Monday night into Tuesday, despite having “extremely limited” resources and almost no fuel.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians remain in torn, flooded tents that offer no protection from the rain or cold.
The incoming storm is the second in just ten days. The previous one submerged tens of thousands of tents, deepening an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis caused by two years of ongoing Israeli genocide. With Israel refusing to open crossings or allow shelter materials in, Gaza still needs more than 300,000 tents and mobile housing units for displaced families.
Civil Defense officials say the previous storm devastated 288,000 displaced families, many of whom now face another round of flooding, heavy winds, and total loss of what little they have left. The situation is worsened by the near-collapse of Gaza’s infrastructure, with 90% of civilian facilities destroyed and nearly 70 million tons of rubble blocking emergency response routes.
The Civil Defense warns that without immediate fuel deliveries, its teams will be unable to pump floodwater or reach submerged shelters, risking widespread drowning inside camps. Officials call on international and Arab parties to urgently supply fuel and equipment before the storm hits, stressing that Israel’s ongoing violations of the ceasefire have already left more than 69,000 Palestinians killed and over 170,000 injured.
