Gaza Civil Defense: Unable to Recover the Dead as Humanitarian Crisis Worsens Ahead of Winter

Gaza Herald- Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson of the Civil Defense in Gaza, expressed his deep concern over the exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis as Israel continues to prevent field teams from recovering the bodies of the deceased under the rubble and from using the heavy equipment needed for rescue and removal operations.

Basal said in a statement: “The situation requires appointing specialized groups with an effective plan to remove the rubble and the bodies of the deceased,” warning of existing unexploded ordnance as a threat to their lives.

He stated that the dire situations people have been trying to endure, often documented on social media, fail to capture the true extent of the daily suffering, and he warned of the approaching winter season for those living in destroyed or temporary shelters.

The winter, he said, is like a nightmare for people in Gaza due to the lack of essential supplies needed to mitigate the humanitarian crisis, calling on humanitarian and international organizations to take urgent action to support residents with all the necessities, including tents, clothing, blankets, and other essentials.

Basal urged urgent international intervention to prevent the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
