Gaza Herald – Gaza’s largest medical facility, Al-Shifa Hospital, has reported a sharp surge in congenital deformities among newborns, a consequence of Israel’s use of internationally banned weapons, prolonged famine, and the lasting effects of its genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, according to Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the hospital’s director.
Dr. Abu Salmiya revealed that more than 5,000 Palestinians have undergone amputations, including 2,000 children, most of whom urgently need prosthetic limbs. He warned that the health sector’s collapse and the continued blockade are preventing adequate treatment and rehabilitation.
Medical experts have linked the growing number of birth defects and amputations to toxic munitions and starvation, calling the situation “a humanitarian catastrophe engineered by warfare.”
