Gaza Herald – A senior UN official has revealed that the cost of rebuilding Gaza following Israel’s ongoing genocide will exceed $52 billion, underscoring the sheer scale of devastation left behind after two years of relentless bombardment.
Jorge Moreira da Silva, Director of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), stated that nearly 80% of Gaza’s infrastructure has been wiped out, describing the situation as “a humanitarian and structural collapse of unprecedented proportions.”
Da Silva stressed that the removal of millions of tons of rubble is now the immediate priority before any reconstruction can begin. Entire neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and water systems lie in ruins, leaving Gaza’s 2.2 million residents trapped in what UN experts have described as “a man-made wasteland.”
The official warned that without an immediate end to the siege and unrestricted access for aid and reconstruction teams, Gaza will remain uninhabitable, a scar on humanity’s conscience.
