Israeli Forces Transfer Sumud Activists to Negev Prison

Gaza Herald – In a brazen escalation, Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters and forcibly transferred all activists to the Negev desert prison near Gaza. The flotilla, carrying over 450 humanitarians and international activists from 44 countries, was en route to break Israel’s siege on Gaza and deliver vital aid. This seizure flagrantly violates international law and underscores Israel’s calculated campaign of oppression against Gaza.

Witnesses reported that the Israeli navy encircled the flotilla, jammed its communications, and boarded several ships. All participants, including international lawmakers and aid workers, were detained and transported to the remote Negev facility, approximately 30 km from the Egyptian border. Legal teams from the Palestinian “Adalah” organization have begun urgent proceedings to ensure the detainees’ safety and secure their rights while in custody.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail from Spanish ports on August 31, 2025, included vessels such as the “Handala” and “Anas Al-Sharif” and aimed to challenge the maritime blockade of Gaza. Despite successfully navigating past some initial naval barriers, the flotilla was intercepted just 75 miles from Gaza’s coast, preventing the delivery of life-saving food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies.

This is the second major flotilla targeted by Israeli forces this year. Earlier in July 2025, the “Handala” flotilla faced a similar interception in international waters, raising serious concerns about Israel’s repeated violations of maritime law and human rights. International observers and human rights groups continue to call for the immediate release of the detainees and demand accountability for Israel’s systematic obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
