Gaza Herald_ Gaza City’s already fragile health system is collapsing under the weight of Israel’s escalating assault, leaving hundreds of thousands of civilians without access to life-saving treatment. The destruction of hospitals and clinics is not just a byproduct of war but a direct attack on the last line of survival for a besieged population.
The people of Gaza City are facing yet another devastating blow as Israel’s ongoing assault has forced the closure of seven hospitals and medical centers, further crippling an already shattered healthcare system.
Among those forced to shut down are al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital and the Eye Hospital, Gaza’s only public eye-care facility. Both were closed after Israeli bombardment in the Nasr neighborhood, according to the Health Ministry.
Al-Quds Hospital remains partially operational, but its oxygen station was destroyed in an attack. The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has warned that the facility is now relying solely on oxygen cylinders that could be exhausted within days.
Meanwhile, al-Shifa Hospital, al-Ahli Arab Hospital, and a PRCS field hospital continue to function under extreme duress, providing only limited services as fuel, medicines, and equipment run dangerously low.
The collapse of Gaza City’s medical network underscores the deliberate targeting of life-saving infrastructure, leaving tens of thousands without critical care. With hospitals reduced to rubble and health workers struggling to keep their patients alive, the city’s civilians are left to endure bombardment, injury, and disease with nowhere to turn for help.
The systematic destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure is yet another form of collective punishment inflicted on a trapped civilian population. By deliberately targeting hospitals, Israel is dismantling the very spaces meant to preserve life, ensuring that the people of Gaza face death not only from bombs but also from the absence of care, medicine, and hope.
