Gaza Herald – Idan Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American soldier and former Hamas captive, has announced he will return to the Israeli army to participate in its ongoing military genocide on Gaza. This genocide has killed over 65,000 Palestinians and wounded more than 166,000 since October 2023.
Alexander, whom Hamas released in May as a “goodwill gesture” for ceasefire talks, declared at a Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) event in the United States that he will resume service “proudly alongside my brothers… until victory.” The event, aimed at raising funds for emergency medical aid and mental health support for Israeli soldiers, showcased Alexander’s pledge to return despite the catastrophic conditions in Gaza.
Captured on October 7 while serving in the Israeli military near Gaza, Alexander was held until his release in May. Since then, the Trump administration has hardened its stance on Palestinians, backing Israel’s relentless siege and military campaign in Gaza, which has caused widespread displacement, famine, and the killing of civilians, including thousands of children.
This development highlights a stark reality: while Gaza bleeds and its civilians suffer, soldiers like Alexander are preparing to rejoin the forces responsible for a campaign that humanitarian organizations describe as systematic and devastating.
