Gaza Herald- In a landmark moment for global accountability, a United Nations inquiry has officially determined that Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza constitutes genocide.
After nearly two years of relentless bombardment, mass displacement, and starvation imposed on Palestinians, the UN’s findings affirm what victims and rights groups have long declared: Israel is not merely waging war, but systematically seeking to destroy Gaza’s population in violation of international law.
A United Nations inquiry has concluded that Israel’s war on Gaza amounts to genocide, marking a historic and damning judgment after nearly two years of relentless bombardment and siege.
Navi Pillay, chair of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, announced the findings in an interview with Al Jazeera on Tuesday. She confirmed that the inquiry directly implicated Israeli President Isaac Herzog, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, citing their orders and public statements as evidence of intent.
“Because these three individuals were agents of the state, under the law, the state is held responsible. So we say it’s the state of Israel that has committed genocide,” Pillay explained.
The report detailed how the Commission found both explicit statements from Israeli officials and “circumstantial evidence” pointing to genocidal intent. It concluded that Israeli authorities and security forces had acted with the clear aim of destroying, in whole or in part, the Palestinian population in Gaza.
Despite the gravity of the findings, Israel’s ambassador to Geneva rejected the report, denouncing it as “scandalous,” “fake,” and a “libellous rant.”
This landmark UN conclusion strengthens calls for accountability under international humanitarian law and the Genocide Convention, exposing Israel’s systematic assault on Gaza as not merely a war, but a deliberate campaign to annihilate a besieged people in full view of the world.
