Gaza Herald- The World Health Organization (WHO) has voiced deep shock and alarm at the international community’s failure to provide safe passage for thousands of sick and wounded Palestinians trapped in Gaza.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed that at least 15,000 people, including 3,800 children, urgently need medical evacuation abroad. Yet, in his words, “the urgent problem we face is that too few countries are willing to receive” them. His statement reflects not just a humanitarian plea but astonishment that nations would turn away dying children and critically ill patients.
So far, 700 people, among them 140 children, have already lost their lives while waiting for evacuation. Tedros stressed, “We call for countries to open their arms to these critically ill patients,” underscoring his disbelief that the world is watching and doing so little.
He also urged Israel to allow patients to be transferred to hospitals in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, where many could be treated more quickly.
The refusal of states to accept Gaza’s patients has left humanitarian officials stunned. For Palestinians, it adds another cruel layer to their suffering, a tragedy not only of war but of willful indifference. The shocking inaction of the international community leaves thousands of lives hanging by a thread, as Gaza’s children and patients continue to pay the price of global neglect.
