Gaza Herald- The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, announced on Wednesday that several Israeli soldiers were killed or injured in an attack on a newly established Israeli position southeast of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
According to the statement, a force of Qassam fighters, described as an infantry unit, stormed the site. During the raid, they targeted Merkava 4 tanks using Shuwaadh charges, suicide assault devices, and Yassin 105 shells.
The fighters also shelled homes where Israeli soldiers were taking cover with six anti-fortification and anti-personnel rounds, before entering and engaging the soldiers at close range with light weapons and grenades.
The statement added that one Qassam fighter fatally shot the commander of a Merkava 4 tank. Mortar fire was also used on surrounding positions to block supply lines and prevent Israeli reinforcements from reaching the area.
As the operation continued, Qassam fighters maintained mortar fire to secure their withdrawal. A suicide bomber detonated among Israeli rescue forces as they arrived, causing additional casualties. The attack lasted several hours.
Israeli helicopters were reportedly seen evacuating the wounded, but no further details were provided.
The Qassam Brigades framed the operation as part of Palestinian factions’ response to what they describe as the ongoing mass atrocities by Israel in Gaza, with U.S. support, including killings, starvation, destruction, and displacement over the past 22 months, despite international calls and International Court of Justice orders to halt these actions.
