Gaza Herlad_ The Hamas Movement announced early Thursday that it has formally submitted its response to the latest ceasefire proposal via mediators, on behalf of itself and other Palestinian factions. The group did not disclose the contents of the response, which is still under review by the Israeli negotiation team.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, sources close to the talks have described Hamas’s response as “more positive” than previous replies.
Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel are currently underway in Doha, Qatar, focusing on reaching a ceasefire and a potential prisoner exchange deal. Hamas has reiterated its position: it is prepared to release all Israeli captives simultaneously, but only in return for a full cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Since October 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed over 59,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children while causing widespread destruction, the collapse of the healthcare system, and catastrophic levels of hunger.
Israel is currently under international legal scrutiny. The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Separately, the International Court of Justice is hearing a genocide case against Israel over its actions in Gaza.
