Gaza Witnesses Severe Blood Supply Crisis

GAZA- The Palestinian Ministry of Health has stated that laboratories and blood banks in Gaza’s hospitals are experiencing a dire shortage of blood units and donors, amid rising numbers of injuries caused by the ongoing Israeli attacks.

On Monday, the ministry confirmed that the urgent need for blood units is increasing as the number of critical injuries rises, warning that the availability of blood units is much lower than the monthly consumption.

Due to the escalation of Israeli attacks in recent months, the number of wounded people has significantly increased, consuming 10,000 units of blood and its components, while 3,500 units are only remaining.

Amid the complete closure of Gaza’s crossings imposed by Israel, which prevents the entry of food and humanitarian aid, people are suffering from anemia due to severe food scarcity.

The ministry expressed deep concern over the declining number of blood donors, especially as famine and cases of anemia continue to rise.

It continued to call for blood donation campaigns to support emergency teams in saving the wounded.

Since Israel began genocide in Gaza, countless people have been killed and injured while the healthcare system continues to deteriorate day by day.

Meanwhile, the World Food Program (WFP) explained that most families in the Gaza Strip have started eating one meal a day.

In press remarks on Sunday, WFP added, “The fear of famine and the desperate need for food remain extremely high in Gaza.”

The agency reported that food security and food systems continue to collapse as Israel continues to impose a ban on food entry, adding, “One family in Gaza told us that extreme heat and food shortages have caused some people to lose consciousness.”

It becomes difficult to get flour amid the famine Gaza is witnessing as families found themselves obliged to head to the dangerous distribution sites to feed their children.

WFP explained that many people put their lives in danger to get one kilogram of flour.

Israel continues to impose complete closure on the border crossings into Gaza since March 2, preventing the entry of food, humanitarian aid, water, medical supplies, goods, and fuel to worsen the situation.

Because of US support for Israel to continue committing massacres against civilians in Gaza, the number of people who were killed and injured is estimated at 189,000; the majority were children and women, while over 11,000 are still missing.
