GAZA—Three-year-old Amr al-Hams is fighting for his life in a hospital in southern Gaza after surviving an Israeli airstrike in April 2025 that killed his pregnant mother, two siblings, and grandfather.

The attack left shrapnel in Amr’s brain, rendering him unable to walk or speak. Now suffering from severe malnutrition due to the Israeli blockade, Amr is fed mashed lentils by his aunt, Nour, who also cares for him around the clock.

Doctors warn that without urgent evacuation and specialized medical treatment, his brain injuries could cause permanent damage.

Amr’s condition symbolizes the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where innocent children bear the brunt of war.
