Gaza Herald – On Monday, a new group of Palestinian patients and war-wounded from Khan Yunis in southern Gaza left for the Rafah border crossing, accompanied by caregivers, en route to Egypt to continue their medical treatment.
Medical sources and paramedics reported that around 50 patients and wounded, along with their companions, were transferred to the crossing as part of ongoing medical evacuation efforts amid severe shortages in Gaza’s healthcare facilities.
Yesterday, Sunday, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society conducted a similar evacuation, moving 17 patients accompanied by 33 civilians from its Rehabilitation Hospital in Khan Yunis, in coordination with the World Health Organization and relevant authorities, to receive care outside the enclave.
The Red Crescent emphasized that these efforts are part of its humanitarian role in ensuring treatment for cases that cannot be addressed in Gaza due to the extreme pressure on hospitals and the urgent need to transfer patients abroad.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health warned of an imminent threat to the continued operation of hospitals because of severe fuel and spare parts shortages needed for electricity generators, raising fears of a total shutdown soon.
This evacuation comes amid an unprecedented healthcare crisis caused by the ongoing Israeli war since October 2023, which has heavily damaged medical infrastructure, compounded by the blockade, leading to a near-total collapse of Gaza’s medical system.
