Gaza Herald- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) warned of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza as Israel continues to impose tight restrictions on humanitarian aid access into the besieged enclave.
UNRWA said that it continues to distribute humanitarian aid to Gaza’s population, warning that supplies are nearing depletion, urging the international community to exert pressure on the Israeli authorities to immediately lift restrictions on the entry of aid supplies into the enclave.
The UN agency reported that it has sufficient supplies stockpiled in Jordan and Egypt to load 6,000 trucks, including enough food to sustain Gaza’s entire population for three months. However, Israel only allows around half of the 500 to 600 aid trucks required each day to enter the territory.
It also reported that Israeli-imposed import rules prevent it from delivering pens and notebooks into the territory.
Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, stressed that international relief must restore dignity to Gaza’s population by increasing shelter resources and guaranteeing unhindered humanitarian access.
