Stranded Gaza Students Demand Rafah Crossing Reopen to Save Their Academic Futures

Gaza Herald—Students from Gaza who are enrolled in foreign universities and hold international scholarships staged a protest in Khan Younis, calling for the immediate reopening of the Rafah land crossing with Egypt. The demonstration was held at the Media Solidarity Center in Al-Mawasi area, affiliated with the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.

The students warned that Israel’s continued military control and closure of the crossing is preventing them from traveling to their universities, threatening the loss of scholarships they worked years to secure and placing their entire academic futures at risk amid Gaza’s worsening humanitarian conditions.

Rafah Crossing has remained largely closed despite the ceasefire, leaving thousands of Palestinians, including students, patients, and residency permit holders, trapped inside Gaza. The prolonged restrictions have deepened educational and humanitarian crises, prompting growing calls for the crossing to be opened immediately and without conditions.
