Three Palestinian Children Die from Cold in Gaza Amid Israeli Blockade

Gaza Herald – At least three Palestinian children have died in Gaza since Sunday due to extreme cold, as hundreds of thousands remain without adequate shelter or heating because of Israel’s ongoing blockade. A two-month-old infant died on Sunday, followed by a four-year-old and a seven-day-old newborn on Monday, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The ministry reported that six children have succumbed to the cold since the start of winter. The Gaza-based Government Media Office said that since the start of Israel’s two-year bombing campaign in October 2023, at least 21 people, including 18 children, have died from exposure in makeshift displacement camps.

Officials warned of worsening humanitarian conditions, noting that the severe cold waves, combined with the destruction of homes and civilian infrastructure, continue to put children, the sick, and the elderly at extreme risk.

Approximately 1.5 million people in Gaza remain without proper shelter, as the Israeli blockade prevents the entry of tents, mobile homes, and heating supplies, further deepening the crisis despite the ceasefire signed in October.
