Gaza Herald – Several Palestinians were killed and others wounded on Sunday after Israeli airstrikes hit al-Zeitoun neighborhood east of Gaza City, as Israeli forces continued widespread violations of the fragile ceasefire through bombardment, demolitions, and live fire across the Strip.
In northern Gaza, Israeli forces carried out large-scale demolitions of residential buildings in the Abu Zeitoun area of the Jabalia refugee camp, triggering massive explosions that caused extensive destruction and spread fear among residents and displaced families amid ongoing military activity.
Additional explosions rocked areas near Sheikh Zayed Roundabout in northern Gaza, where Israeli forces detonated booby-trapped vehicles as part of what local sources described as systematic destruction of remaining homes, particularly in eastern areas.
The escalation came as severe winter weather deepened the humanitarian crisis, with heavy rain and strong winds damaging hundreds of displacement tents, especially in Khan Younis, leaving thousands of displaced families exposed to cold and flooding.
Civil defense teams warned displaced civilians, particularly those sheltering in tents on coastal or muddy land, to take precautions as further storms are expected, while Israeli authorities continue to block the entry of mobile homes and additional shelter materials.
Politically, the renewed violence unfolded as Hamas leaders arrived in Cairo for talks on the second phase of the ceasefire, amid reports that Washington may soon announce a new framework for Gaza’s post-war administration, even as Israeli strikes continue to undermine prospects for stability.
