1.5 Million Palestinians Homeless in Gaza Amid Severe Shelter and Aid Shortages

Gaza Herald- Amjad Al-Shawa, Director of the Network of Civil Society Organizations in Gaza, stated that approximately 1.5 million people have lost their homes amid the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis and significantly increasing urgent needs.

Al-Shawa stated that while Gaza needs over 300,000 tents for displaced families, only around 60,000 have entered the Strip, leaving many without proper shelter during severe weather.

He highlighted that restrictions on UNRWA aid have forced civil society organizations to shoulder responsibilities beyond their capacity.

Al-Shawa highlighted that the network prioritizes aid for women-headed households, the elderly, disabled individuals, orphans, and families in flood-prone areas, providing them with essential shelter materials.

He highlighted that the destruction of NGO offices by Israeli forces has forced staff to operate from tents or temporary locations under harsh conditions.

Al-Shawa added that humanitarian work is simultaneously suffering from a severe decline in funding, which has directly affected the ability of civil society organizations to respond to the growing needs of affected populations across the Gaza Strip.
