Gaza Herald – Gaza’s Civil Defense exhumed the remains of 94 Palestinians who were buried in an unmarked mass grave along a city street during Israel’s genocide on the enclave, as authorities began transferring victims to official cemeteries after months of devastation.
Officials said the bodies were buried hastily amid relentless Israeli bombardment, when reaching formal cemeteries was impossible. Families across Gaza were forced to bury their relatives in streets, schoolyards, hospital grounds, and other makeshift locations simply to escape ongoing shelling.
The recovered remains were transferred to Shifa Medical Complex for forensic examination before reburial in Martyrs’ Cemetery in Deir al-Balah. Civil Defense officials noted that some of the bodies could not be immediately identified, reflecting the scale of chaos and displacement caused by the war.
Rescue teams said the operation was part of a broader effort to relocate thousands of Palestinians buried in temporary graves throughout Gaza. Workers continued to face extreme health risks due to decomposing bodies, lack of protective equipment, and Israeli restrictions on medical and safety supplies, underscoring how the consequences of the war persist long after the fighting itself.
