Gaza Herald- The United Nations estimated that storms and heavy rainfall affected around 55,000 Palestinian families in Gaza, damaging homes and shelters, according to Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.
Haq stated that the rainstorm damaged dozens of child-friendly spaces in Gaza, disrupting child protection activities and affecting around 30,000 children, and called for immediate repairs to allow these programs to continue without delay.
He warned that Israeli restrictions continue to hinder humanitarian aid in Gaza, where recent heavy rains have worsened living conditions and flooded makeshift tents following intense bombardment.
UN agencies have stepped up deliveries of tents, blankets and clothes since the Gaza ceasefire began nine weeks ago, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
More than 40 designated emergency shelters were severely flooded following downpours on Monday and Tuesday, forcing many people to relocate again.
Medical sources reported that 13 people have died in Gaza hospitals due to the storm and extreme cold.
